Dela case study

Dela – who has just completed our last Catalyst Programme – tells us a bit about herself and her experiences on it.

What would your dream job be?

When it comes to working in the sustainability sector, I would love to run my own charity that focuses on raising awareness around period poverty among houseless and low-income women. This ambition is inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which encourage me to look at sustainability from a human-centred approach.

Why did you come on our catalyst programme?

I came on the Catalyst Summit and Mentoring programme to learn more about the sustainability sector in the United Kingdom. As I’m new to living and working in the UK, I thought that this programme would be a good way to meet other young people who are sustainability-driven and learn how I can find work/opportunities within this area.

Tell us in your own words what your overall experience of it was?

Thus far I’ve enjoyed my experience in the programme, especially the Catalyst Summit. I learned so much from the speakers and attendees, and it was a launchpad for my understanding of the UK sustainability sector.

What three things did you like about it most?
  • Connecting with other like-minded young women
  • Gaining more insight into career paths and volunteer opportunities within the sustainable sector
  • Ongoing opportunities to participate in master classes.
Can you give any examples of how it’s impacted your behaviour?

I find that I’m encouraged to think more critically about the products that I use and consume. I feel encouraged to ask more questions about what I’m consuming and to seek out sustainable alternatives to everyday items, such as clothes, cosmetics, and food.

How would you recommend it to a friend?

I would say that the Catalyst Summit is a great way to gain focus around what your goals and interests are within the sustainability sector. If you want to work in the sustainability sector or learn more about existing opportunities and you don’t know where to start, this is an excellent starting point!

Thank you very much – I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to join this network of young changemakers and to continue learning within this network!
